Freedom of Information

The Freedom of Information Act (FoIA) has been in force since 2005 and Crewkerne Town Council is committed to providing the public with as much information as possible. The FoIA gives you the right to access recorded information held by public sector organisations.

How to make a Freedom of Information request

Please write to Crewkerne Town Council either by post or email. Try and be as specific as possible when you are requesting information, in line with the Information Commissioner’s guidance:

  • You can ask for any information you think a public authority may hold. The right only covers recorded information.
  • You should identify the information you want as clearly as possible.
  • Your request can take the form of a question, rather than a request for specific documentation but the public authority does not have to answer your question if it would mean creating new information or giving a judgment or opinion not already recorded.
  • Some information may not be provided because it is exempt, for example if it would unfairly identify another individual.

A full copy of the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) guidance on how to make an FoIA request to a public body can be found here: How to access information from a public body | ICO.

When Crewkerne Town Council responds to an FoIA request, the full request and response are published here on this website in the interests of full transparency.
